The Real Meaning of Frugal

The dictionary definition of frugal is economical in use or expenditure; prudently saving or sparing; not wasteful: a frugal manager; entailing little expense; requiring few resources; meager; scanty. This does not mean cheap. Being frugal means being wise in managing your resources: money, assets, etc.
Many people make the mistake in buying items solely on price. I would like to share some frugal tips to help you save money and give you peace of mind.

  • Plan your purchases. Impulse buying is still very popular, but still very costly. Comparison shop with various stores. Check out promotions and deals.
  • Product Reviews. Read what others have to say about the product and really take this to heart. People love to share information. Those stars are not there just for show. Click on the product reviews and study them. Some people may post bad reviews based on their personal preference or negative experiences with a product. Read the reviews carefully. If most of them are bad, then use caution. Of course, you must make your own personal decision on whether you want to purchase the product.
  • Manufacturer Websites. Visit their sites to see whether ongoing support is available. I bought a 42 inch TV because it was on sell for $348, but when I need support for the item, there was none available. Check this especially when purchasing large ticket items like TVs, Computers, etc.
  • Proper Care. Read instruction manuals. Yes, I know, I know. They can seem like such a bore, but they really do have information that is useful. Keep them in a safe place. They contain serial numbers, customer support addresses and phone numbers, warranty and product care information.
Visit our AVON WebStore for some great holiday savings with Free Shipping on your purchase of $30 or more.

AVON Wellness Tip-Losing and Maintaining Weight

Fad diets never seem to go away. I was watching the Tyra Banks Show a few weeks back and she talked about a new "fad diet" that is currently illegal in the United States, but people are still flocking to its calling. This diet has to do with a fad where people digest ring worms that can grow to be over 30 feet long. The thing is these worms are ingested and stored in the intestines, where the ring worms feed on your food, which in turns, keeps you from gaining weight. This is dangerous because ring worms are pestisites. They can cause health problems, such as digestive problems and hair loss and even as severe as brain damage and seizures.

What you do with your body is your responsibility and your personal choice, but I am sincerely here to assist you and would strongly advise you not to ever take this fad diet into consideration. I would like to share a couple of tips that seem like common sense, but you may have a hard time doing. You may or may not have heard these before. I want you to focus on total well-being. So here they are; your wellness tips:

  • Stress- Reduce and eliminate: Some stress is good. If we did not have some stress, we would become complacent in life. You must be able to determine the good from the bad. Organize and prioritize your lives. Set goals and plan tasks to reach them. While planning, don't forget to set time off for yourself. Watch a favorite TV show, read your favorite novel, go for a nature walk; plan some "me" time.
  • Water-Drink plenty of it. In the summer months, this seems easier than in the winter, but just train yourself and it will become a habit for you.
  • Sleep- I know we have busy lives, but if you don't get enough sleep, your body will shut down and your busy life will come to a halt. I have to literally train myself to stop and go to sleep. I keep thinking about the things I did not do and need to do, so I stay up longer to do them. Have a cut-off time when you get things done and when you will stop. If you work the night shift, your biological clock will need some adjusting. You'll need to sleep in the day instead of the night. Before going to sleep, try not to drink caffeine. Drink warm milk instead. I also have an eye mask that I wear to bed and put relaxing music on to calm the mind down. Do what works for you.
  • Exercise-Just like fad diets, there are so many fad exercises out there. First, never push your body over its limit. Take care of your body and it will take care of you. If you are looking to lose weight, set a goal and gradually meet it. Don't try and start at the top of the mountain. You may have a goal to lose 20 pounds. Don't just say, I want to lose 20 pounds. Say, "I will lose 20 pounds by March 31, 2009 by exercising 3 to 4 times per week". Do exercises that are right for you. Never do exercises to try to "keep up with the Joness". This will hurt you more than help you. Always think safety.
  • Diet-With all of these in mind, eating the right foods really does make a difference. Also, eating right proportions. You can minimize calories by choosing low-calorie foods and also by eating smaller amounts of food over time. I rarely go to buffets because I know that I am not going to do the "all you can eat thing". You see, I have just figured out that people go to buffets to save money, but they are overspending in other areas of life; health and wellness. Buffet mentality tells us we are saving money when we stuff our mouths and store all this food in our bellies, eventhough we don't need it. It's like going to Sam's Club or BJ's and buying bulk items when you have no place to store them. Eating at a buffet fools us into believing that we have to go and eat all we can to get our money's worth, so, we eat more than necessary, which costs us. Calories are like debt. Once you accumulate them, they are hard to get rid of. When eating out at your favorite restaraunt or take-out, and you fill full, you can save the rest for later. Split your meals and eat smaller portions.
